Walter J. Mathews concentrates his practice on securities and commercial litigation, representing both plaintiffs and defendants in federal and state courts, FINRA arbitrations, and before the SEC, FTC, and CFTC.

From 2002 to 2006, Mr. Mathews served as Senior Counsel at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Division of Enforcement, Southeast Regional Office — investigating and prosecuting securities fraud cases on behalf of the federal government. He has personally represented the interests of hundreds of investors in federal receiverships and has served as counsel to the Receiver in high-profile Ponzi scheme cases including SEC v. Viatical Capital and SEC v. Americash-Inc.com.

Prior to the SEC, Mr. Mathews was an associate at Mandel & McAliley LLP where he focused on securities and commercial litigation, and at Tew Cardenas LLP in Miami where he represented both plaintiffs and defendants in securities and commercial litigation and litigated NASD arbitrations on behalf of claimants and respondents.

Mr. Mathews received his J.D. cum laude from the University of Miami School of Law and his B.A. with honors in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He has been featured in the Miami Herald, Sun-Sentinel, ABA Journal, Daily Business Review, Florida Bar Journal, and South Florida Business Journal.

An avid outdoorsman, Mr. Mathews has competed in four marathons and enjoys sailing, skiing, and physical exercise. He resides in Fort Lauderdale with his wife and two sons.

Guy F. Giberson concentrates his practice on commercial litigation, employment, and securities law. His experience includes complex corporate litigation, securities litigation, professional liability, construction litigation, real estate litigation, employment litigation, and appeals.

Prior to joining Mathews Giberson, Mr. Giberson was a partner at Damian & Valori LLP, Wadsworth Huott LLP, and Tew Cardenas LLP — all in Miami. Before that, he was an associate at the New York office of Latham & Watkins, one of the world's largest law firms. His clients have included Kimco Realty Corporation, L-3 Communications, Barclays (formerly Lehman Brothers), Whole Foods Market, Fifth Third Bank, Bank of America, Miami-Dade County School Board, and Citizens Property Insurance Corporation.

Mr. Giberson has represented scores of individuals and companies in employment disputes including whistleblower claims, gender and age discrimination cases, ADA matters, and Fair Labor Standards Act claims. He frequently represents executives and companies in severance disputes and in negotiating employment agreements, non-competition, and non-solicitation agreements. He has taught multiple seminars on employment law.

Mr. Giberson received his J.D. magna cum laude from the University of Miami School of Law in 1996 — graduating with law review, Order of the Coif, and multiple book awards for highest class grade. He received his B.A. with distinction in Economics from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in 1992.
